When I went to The Hague on Monday, I bought some new books.
Books are awesome. They take you to another world without harming your body.
I have loved reading ever since I was a little kid. I was heavily into world mythologies, gazing at the watercolour pictures and reading how different cultures thought the world was made.
Reading a book opens your eyes up to new worlds, new perspectives and new cultures.
They can address the troubles of their times, and show you how good you have it now.
I prefer reading a book to watching TV. TV nowadays teaches you nothing.
Recently, I’ve gotten into the classics. Roman and Greek literature. Those writers provide life lessons that still ring true to this day.
So, I bought some new books. Two of them are the Illiad and the Odyssey by Homer, they are among the first of Western literature.
I already know the basic outline of the stories, but have yet to read them.
These books are about honourable men, great heroes who fought for their countries, families and honour.
Nowadays, we don’t have much to fight for. Fighting isn’t socially acceptable anymore.
I’m weak as fuck, so you won’t hear me complain about that though. Of course I am in the process of changing the fact that I’ve got no muscles.
For now, I’d rather fight with my mind and become a modern day hero.
Because you can still become a hero nowadays. Today, someone from my old highschool sent me a message that she was lauding my efforts to make something of myself. Apparently something in my writing strikes a note with her.
How do you become a hero in the twenty-first century?
Tame your vices.
If you can control yourself and think in the long term, if you know yourself and are doing something about it, if you’re working out, if you don’t binge-eat on sugary foods, if you wake up early, if you don’t masturbate, if you respect your parents and many more things that this blog is about you are in the process of becoming a hero.
You don’t have to slay hundreds of people or defend the passage at Thermopylae. You just have to climb on top of the masses and do it while staying honest and truthful.
I am excited to read my new books so that I can learn what the parallels are between an ancient Greek hero and a modern hero. I will surely tell you when I know.
Until the next time.
